Earnings & Payment

How much you can earn and when you get paid.

Servella cleaners enjoy competitive, transparent earnings with reliable weekly payments. The rate shown for each job is exactly what you'll earn for that job. This guide explains everything you need to know about earnings, payments, and any one-off costs you should be aware of.

How much can I earn?

Your earnings depend on the type of jobs you complete. Each job shows a clear rate before you accept it. Current rates range from £14 - £18 per hour depending on the service type:

  • Regular cleaning - standard hourly rate for maintenance cleans
  • Deep cleaning - higher rate for thorough, detailed work
  • Move-in/move-out cleaning - premium rate for comprehensive cleans
  • Specialist services (oven cleaning, etc.) - additional earnings for extras
  • Longer bookings and regular customers typically offer better value for travel time

Earnings breakdown

For each completed job, you can see a detailed breakdown in the app:

  • Base rate - the standard hourly rate for that service type
  • Rate override - some jobs may have a different rate (shown clearly)
  • Base earnings - your earnings for the scheduled duration
  • Bonuses - additional payments (e.g., difficult access, last-minute booking)
  • Deductions - any applicable reductions (rare, always explained)
  • Tips - any tips added by the customer
  • Travel payments - where applicable
  • Total - your complete earnings for that job

Weekly pay periods

Payments are processed on a weekly cycle:

  • Pay period: Monday to Sunday
  • All jobs completed during the week are totalled automatically
  • Your earnings are calculated and prepared for payment
  • Payment day: The following Wednesday
  • Payment method: BACS transfer direct to your bank account
  • Processing time: Usually arrives same day or next working day

Tracking your earnings

The Servella cleaner app provides comprehensive earnings tracking:

  • Weekly earnings - see your total for the current and previous weeks
  • Monthly earnings - view your earnings by month
  • Individual job earnings - tap any completed job to see the breakdown
  • Adjustments - view any bonuses, deductions, or tips clearly itemised
  • Earnings history - full record of all your past earnings

Statements and invoices

You can download detailed statements and invoices directly from the app:

  • PDF statements for each pay period
  • Itemised breakdown of every job
  • Useful for your tax records and self-assessment
  • Easy to download and save

No ongoing fees

Unlike some agencies or platforms, Servella does not take a percentage of your earnings. There are no membership fees, no booking fees, and no ongoing deductions. The rate shown for each job is the exact amount you'll earn for completing that job.

DBS check cost

All Servella cleaners are required to have a valid DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. To make onboarding as smooth as possible, Servella covers the cost of your DBS check upfront so you can start working sooner. The cost is then recovered from your earnings as follows:

  • Servella pays for your DBS check initially, so there's no upfront cost to you
  • The DBS check cost is deducted from your first weekly payment
  • If your first payment doesn't fully cover the cost, the remaining balance is spread across subsequent payments
  • Deductions are clearly shown in your earnings breakdown so you always know what's been taken
  • Once the DBS cost is fully recovered, no further deductions are made

Building your income

Many of our cleaners build up regular income streams through recurring customers:

  • Regular customers - weekly, fortnightly, or monthly bookings with the same customers
  • Customer requests - satisfied customers can specifically request you for future bookings
  • Reliable scheduling - recurring bookings give you predictable income
  • Full-time potential - many cleaners work full-time hours exclusively with Servella
  • Flexibility - work as much or as little as suits your lifestyle

Bank account requirements

To receive payments, you'll need to provide your UK bank account details through the app. The account must be in your name (matching your verified identity documents). We support standard UK bank accounts with sort codes and account numbers.

Tax responsibilities

As a self-employed cleaner, you're responsible for your own taxes. This means:

  • Register as self-employed with HMRC if you haven't already
  • Keep records of your earnings (the app tracks everything for you)
  • Submit an annual Self Assessment tax return
  • Pay Income Tax on your earnings above the personal allowance
  • Pay Class 2 and Class 4 National Insurance contributions
  • We recommend setting aside 20-25% of your earnings for tax

Understanding your tax position

Because Servella pays you the full job rate with no deductions, you receive gross earnings (before tax). This is different from being employed, where tax is deducted automatically through PAYE. If you're new to self-employment, we recommend consulting HMRC's guidance or speaking to an accountant. The good news is that the app provides clear earnings records that make completing your tax return straightforward.
